Short Biography
After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1968, he received his doctorate in Biochemistry from Hacettepe University in 1971. Engin completed his specialization training in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery in 1973. His doctoral studies led to the discovery of the relationship between "cancer growth rate and tissue glutathione concentrations", and these studies were cited many times and were awarded the "Surgical Science Award". Associate professor in 1978, Prof. Engin became one of the founding members of his faculty, to which he was appointed in 1979. prof. The findings of Engin's national and internationally funded research projects have been published in more than 100 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and cited in more than 2600 international journals and books. While some of these results won national and international awards, some of them were registered and included in international scientific databases. prof. Engin wrote 30 chapters in five international books and edited four of them. He studied endocrine surgery with the "JICA scholarship award" in Japan. He participated in the studies of "breast cancer and Milan trials" organized by the Breast Unit of the Milan National Cancer Institute.In the global evaluation made for the first time in 2021 and then in 2022 by the Euro-America joint jury at Stanford University in the USA; In a database of 100,000 top scientists, Prof. Engin was among the "Best 2% Scientist in the World Ranking" with his work throughout his career. He is still retired and serves as a referee for international scientific project evaluations and international journals and as a consultant to the national scientific project partner group.
