Gülderen YANIKKAYA DEMİREL

Dr. Yanıkkaya Demirel is a Professor of Immunology and Head of the Immunology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Yeditepe University, Istanbul, Turkey. She has graduated from School of Medicine, Ankara University in 1984. She completed his doctorate in Istanbul Marmara University, Institute of Health Sciences, Internal Diseases Immunology Program. After working in national and international companies as product specialist, she has worked in private laboratories to establish a cord blood bank, a blood bank, several flow cytometry and molecular immunology units. She has participated in research projects while she was still in the industry. She has been working at Yeditepe University since 2009, has participated in several EU projects, awarded and led several TUBITAK (Turkish Scientific Council) research projects. She has been an evaluator and rapporteur for EU projects and TUBITAK since 2002. Currently, she is the director of Stem Cell Laboratory and Tissue Typing Laboratory of the Yeditepe University Hospitals and also co-director of the Yeditepe Translational Medicine Center. Her current research is focused on; immune check points in hematological malignancies, microenvironment and cancer, mesenchymal stromal cells, neurodegenerative diseases diagnostics, cytotoxicity testing for biomaterials/nanoparticles.
